Harmony Korine Directs The Black Keys
I don’t know about you but as soon as I finished watching Trash Humpers I thought “Harmony Korine needs to direct the hit single from one of the biggest rock bands around today.” Sure enough, logic prevailed and he’s directed The Black Keys’ chart-topper “Gold on the Ceiling.”
Seeing as this is a movie website and this somewhat constitutes as news, I think I am required by law to speculate on the director’s career prospects. Alright, here goes: well, this in addition to that short film he did with Die Antwoord (find it here) is a sure fire clue that he’s going to quit making movies and focus solely on filming musical based videos.
No. Of course not. That’s ridiculous. He’s even got a new film (kinda) coming out for which I am very, as they say, ‘pumped’. Check out the trailer here.
I really really like the costume design, that was whack. Like they were the ones on the front of their baby twins, but their baby twins’ arms were moving! Really cool concept. Apart from that I found the clip to be a complete wank.
Haha, yeah that’s such a striking image. Why didn’t you like the rest of the clip? I have a feeling you’ll hate Trash Humpers.
It was just a load of wanktrash. Trying to exploit the same image over and over again for 3 minutes. Nothing happened and it came off seeming like tryhard whackness. ‘How about we just have jaunted little still images of them in different places? Yeah that’ll be freakycrazy’. After watching Holy Mountain, which doesn’t have any imagery overstay its welcome, this just doesn’t cut it. Which is a shame cos I really like the concept.
I think music videos can get away with exploiting a singular concept/image. Just think of the Weapon of Choice clip by Spike Jonze.
Yeah buts it like that image is more interesting to look at. There’s actually things moving. This is like some wannabe modern art slideshow. Plus it has Chris Walken in it so there’s not much comparison to be done.
Hah, so besides Walkin, the only difference is that the image is more kinetic? I dunno, I think I’m defending this in the same way that George defends things he doesn’t even like just because someone doesn’t like it. I think this is a good clip and I thought it didn’t take itself too serious. It was kinda funny.
I do really like Trash Humpers though.
